An apartment in 1987

Upon entering the pavilion, visitors will find themselves walking straight into a living room belonging to a typical Greek apartment circa 1987. There, they will find an accurate representation of a teenager’s room as well as a kitchen. Visitors will be able to move around the apartment as if it is their own. Within it, they will come across innovations and changes that occurred at homes throughout the decade, household and elements of home life in the 80’s. There will also be traces of previous decades incorporated in the setup.

Architecture, urban planning, public works

A concise presentation of developments in the urban fabric and countryside both in terms of architectural trends and state policies. The identity of the 80s multi-apartment building as well as small and large public projects (Olympic Athletic Center of Athens [OAKA], Peace and Friendship Stadium [SEF], flyovers) will enter into dialogue with important residential regulatory interventions by the state, such as the legalization of buildings constructed without legal permits. Special focus will be paid to the management and rebuilding of the city of Kalamata after the devastating earthquake it suffered in 1986.

Apartment Design: Yiannis Karachalios, Elisavet Plaini

Research Assistants: Sofia Iatrou, Artemis Papadopoulou, Natalia Vlachopoulou, Christos-Georgios Kritikos
