Mass culture and consumption
Place: Purifier
The pavilion aims to reconstruct a variety of mass culture elements from the 80s such as: dietary habits, lifestyle products, dining venues, teenage as well as adult entertainment, concert events, sports, the sexualization of the female and male body, etc. Emphasis is also placed on the emergence of a broad middle class strata which acted as an agent of modern consumption, in a historical juncture during which local and international lifestyles converge and become a social demand. These significant trends will be showcased through exhibits, collected by the exhibition community members, as well as audiovisual and printed material (e.g. TV ads, specialist magazines, etc.). In the outer area visitors will find two containers. One will be filled with children’s toys from 80s and the second, which signifies the third re-enactive part of the exhibition, will contain elements derived from the world of youth and adults alike: an arcade with popular games of the time, all at the visitors’ disposal!
